Mateo Messina, Grammy-Award winning composer for the Academy Award winning film Juno was one of our special guests for the 2010 festival. Messina’s latest film project, Up in the Air, earned its star George Clooney an Oscar nomination. Messina taught a workshop on music’s role in narrative storytelling. He also taught a workshop on film scoring with Taylor music composition students that was scheduled to run one hour and ended up nearly 2.5! Messina was an energetic presenter with many stories of how he has used his gift for playing by ear to score film soundtracks, TV commercials and multiple symphonies.
